The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Kayode O. Adebowale, FAS, mni, during his speech stated that the University of Ibadan is still maintaining its First and Best position in Nigeria as it celebrates 74 years.
He presented this speech at the Islamic Centre, University of Ibadan during the 2022 convocation special Jumat Prayer held on Friday, 11 November 2022.
Professor Adebowale noted that the Times Higher Institutions Ranking placed UI as the First in Nigeria, among the best in Africa, and one of the Best in the world.
He stressed that since the 2021 convocation, UI has recorded laudable acheivements. The students are not only performing excellently at home, but they are also exhibiting the excellent Spirit of the University abroad.
He further recounted the achievements of training 25 Mathematics teachers from Oyo State public and private schools by the Institute of Education; a 300 level Botany student emerging as one of the ten innovators in the 2022 National Enterprise Challenge organised by Directors of Entrepreneurship Centres in the Southwestern Nigerian Universities; University of Ibadan representatives winning the 2021 edition of the West African tour of Arab African International Kolledge Programming contest; and the Department of Food Technology on behalf of the Western Chapter of the Institute of Science and Technology hosting the 2022 Regional Science and Technology Summit.
The President, UI Muslim Community, Prof. Musiliu Onilude in his welcome address said UI Muslim community would continue to pray for peaceful co-existence in the University. He congratulated all graduands and wished them well.
The Convocation Special Jumat Prayer had been observed earlier in the mosque by the Chief Imam of the University of Ibadan Central Mosque, Prof. M. O. Abdul-Rahmon.
