Orientation Week: Oyo State Deputy Governor's Wife Welcomes Muslim Students
The newly-matriculated Muslim students of University of Ibadan visited the wife of the Oyo State Deputy Governor who doubles as a Lecturer at the institution, Professor Hamdalat Bola Olaniyan, on Sunday, 27th of February 2022 at her residence at Jericho in Ibadan.
The visitation, which was part of the Annual Orientation Week Programmes of the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria MSSN University of Ibadan Branch, came after a tour to some momentous places in Ibadan.
Speaking as the hostess, Professor Olaniyan congratulated the new students for being among the lucky ones who competed to enter the University.
She, therefore, encouraged the students to be up and doings and deprive themselves of frivolities for their years in school to emerge among the best students during graduation.
The lecturer, who lamented the shortage of Muslim lecturers in the University of Ibadan, implored the students to strive to graduate with good grades, especially First-Class because it's a norm in the university that any student with first-class could come for Masters and become a lecturer in the Institution.
"Also monitor your results. Know when you are having issues with your results and ensure they are rectified. And, as Muslim students, be models of Islam. Don't be among those who cheat in the exams and do not have any cause to beg a lecturer," She said.
Speaking further, Prof. Olaniyan urged the students to make sure they go into marriage when they are quite ready for it.
" I'm not against marrying as a student. But, be sure you're ready for it or you have a parent who could take the responsibilities," She added.
Speaking earlier, Professor Rasheed Aderinoye, a retired lecturer of the Faculty of Education University of Ibadan, advised the newly-matriculated students to take the opportunity of being on campus to relate and meet new people of values.
He, however, warned them to be wary of friends who might want to take them out of the folds of Islam.
"Don't be carried away with incentives, gifts, or any sweet promises of Christ fellows to lure you out of Islam. Do showcase your Islam and influence your Muslim mates who have not been practising well," He concluded.
The event also featured a presentation of Awards to the host, refreshments, among others.
