Mojoyinola A Ajibola

I believe a drop of ink can make a million think. In these days and ages, indecency – legal normalization of illegality– has pervaded our society. And nobody cares. Yesterday, I was walking from the first gate of University of Ibadan to Faculty of Arts, therein I saw a girl, albeit, I stared not at her, she walked towards me and said “Avicenna, how was your Easter?” I replied her, I am a Muslim. She said “Oh! Sorry”. So, she refrained her question and said “how was the break?” I answered her, it was fine. Thus, we parted ways. Not quite long, a woman with birthday suit and light skirt walked my way, every guy in the environ kept gazing at her, to the extent that one of the guys said “so exquisite!”

Far from doubt, if you ask some people who their role models are, what will ruminate in their brains and spring out of their mouths are Nicki Minaj, Celine Dion, Olamide and Wizkid. Many people have watched The Game of Throne and please with the pornography therein. What throws many people to accept the film is the licentiousness, unseemliness and vileness in the film. We claim ours is civilization. Not to rub your face with digression. What am I saying since? Indecency! Yes, indecency.

Nigerians were gadzooks! Many people slumped, hands twinge and even morose, because of a man who thinks outside the box but later the victim of boxing out of thinking. The hero, he is called. In fact, he has become a mini-god of Delta, all the more, Nigeria. This lanky handsome guy was celebrated by the Deltan people, Nigeria, South Africa and Africa, two weeks ago. If you like you can choose to call him primus inter pares "first among the equal", who cares? Efe, was the type that pass through easy virtue before he could make it in life. Nigerian government were aware of this, even they are being joyful by so doing. I know, children of the so called senate would watch the programme from beginning to the end. Is there anything bad in the programme?

Well, this write ups is not for the purpose of supposition of what have been done, like a law maker, who lamented to the federal government what went wrong with BBNaija.

The reality is Nigerian has legalized illegality by her body language: cheering and elated with the winner. In fact, millions of parent thinks of how their children will get to the world of nakedness. Why will I blame them? Nigerian government does nothing to stop indecency in our country. Imagine, a 30-year-old man who graduated from the University and see no job. What do you expect him to do? Even if there is a program which allows man or woman to have sex with dog and therein will be giving huge amount of money, you think they will not embark on that? Since life is not for them, so, they tend to do what is not for the life and the hereafter.

Now, will I still say you're maddened by the game that throws you out of the “man kingdom” to now embrace 'animal kingdom?’ This is absolutely uncivilized. During our secondary school days we were being thought about The Evolution of Man, in Biology. Wherein we learnt that man from his beginning is as animal. If you are skeptical of this, I employ you to find a shovel and spade, thus you can unbury your great and great grandfather, and see whether evolution of man is a cock and bull story.

After your research, I know you will agree with me that human beings are as animal. From orangutan, gorilla, chimpanzee to human beings, such as ours. Since we were as animal, clothing ourselves was not our norm. Hence, we walk about with our nudity unveil. Even “based on logistics" You will all agree with me that, animal never wear clothes. Sorry, you wear lace and gown for your dog! Hmm! That's nice!

Collectively, those people of the world considered to have a high standard of behaviour and/or a high level of development are civilized. But what level of development shall we call of those who do barbaric act or primitive act? Uncivilized? Yes! For human beings to unveil his nudity is barbaric thus is uncivilized.

A friend of mine went for post JAMB in Unilorin and recounted the story of many women who were not allowed to write the examination because of indecency which showcased. Imagine where those applicants were travelling from, from Abuja or rather Ibadan to Ilorin, now, they wasted their time, money and lost admission for that very year. Well! We can say this is not supposed to be. But, have we forgot how raping pervade in our society?

UNILAG cannot behold the immoralities thus regulate the clothes to be worn on campus. The ladies of life, "bisgirls" will not and never be well pleased with this. Do you know why? They choose to be uncivilized. Common! Civilization is good for the advancement of any society. Be smart!

Since we all want to be and act like USA and UK, what if I tell you today that their society is in unrest because of many cases of rape. According to the National Violence against Women Survey, 1 in 6 U.S. women and 1 in 33 U.S. men has experienced an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. More than a quarter of college-age women, report says, have experienced a rape or rape attempt since age 14. That’s to portray how bad raping case is for them.

Also, in January 2013, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), Office for National Statistics (ONS) and Home Office released its first ever joint Official Statistics bulletin on Sexual violence, entitled An Overview of Sexual Offending in England and Wales. According to the report: approximately 85,000 women are molested on average in England and Wales every year. Over 400,000 women are sexually assaulted each year. 1 in 5 women (aged 16 – 59) has experienced some form of sexual violence since the age of 16. What is the root of this molestation? Indecency.

Imagine a woman wearing a clothe that unveils her cleavages. What do you expect from guys? To marry her? Or to have sex with her? Clinical psychologist Dr Jennifer Baumgartner has claimed our wardrobe decisions tell others about the secret desires that we are trying to hide. “Too much cleavages suggest you are power hungry and keen for control while over-the-top jewellery implies you are insecure and may have financial difficulties.” Even though, you may disagree with him, but that is the bitter-truth.

Hence, several cases of rapes have impregnated our very university, University of Ibadan, and the management did nothing but exacerbate and worsen the case. A case in point is 27-year-old Taiwo Omolara Shittu, a 500 level student of the Department of Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, who was raped to death in 2014. It's all “a clarion call" to the school management to see to the issue of raping by setting straight some abnormalities as per indecent dressing which often precipitates raping.

And to our government, not only banning any form of indecency but also provide the basic amenities for her citizens, especially employment. In the light of this, many people will not see BBNaija as the last option to cater for their needs.
